From the Principal

Mr Michael Sawbridge

For my final newsletter piece this term, I’d like to reflect on what a great semester we have had here at Silkstone. Highlights have been many, and include some great success achieved by our musical groups, and just recently, our Senior Netball Girls won their Grand Final against Immaculate Heart. What a great achievement! The Junior Rugby League Team will also be in action in their Grand Final later this week. We wish them all the best.

It’s in the classroom where our work really counts! We have significantly higher numbers of students achieving reading year level targets than ever before! Almost 90% of our Prep students have now achieved a PM benchmark of 1-5, and some are achieving even higher benchmarks. This is fabulous as these children are now so well set up for success in the later years of school. Credit goes to teachers, teacher-aides and all parents who support children in learning to read by reading at home with children regularly. We also have higher numbers of students achieving grades A-C on their report cards! Remember, a C grade means that the student is achieving the expected National standard for his or her year level.

We were also very pleased with the recent outcome of our School Review process that has concluded. The Assistant Regional Director commented that the work taking place at our school is some of the best she has seen. I am very proud of the work that all the staff have done over the last 18 months. Silkstone has a very strong reputation locally and in our Department. We are now in a great position to build on the work that we have done focussing on reading and curriculum. Our end goal is to ensure that all students get the education they need to reach their full potential.

Finally, with only a week or so left of school before the Winter break, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all families for your ongoing support.
Have a safe and relaxing break.
