From the Principal

Mr Michael Sawbridge

As I sit here, dressed as Willy Wonka from Roald Dahls’ classics children’s story, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I am reflecting on what a truly delightful morning we had today as part of book week. I can honestly say that this was the best Book Parade I have ever seen. The Silkstone families, children and staff really made it a magical event and one which will last in the memories for a long time.
A HUGE shout out goes to Mrs Sally-Anne Weise and Mrs Angela Tonner for all the organisation and the inspiration.
Of course, the purpose of book week is to inspire in all of us a love of books and reading. It doesn’t really matter whether you read classic literature, autobiographies, science magazines, children’s picture books, comics or newspapers, the important thing it to keep reading! We value learning to read so highly at Silkstone and our students, with the support of great teachers, fabulous teacher aides, support staff and of course parents and families, are making enormous gains in their reading. We also love the fact that students are always so eager to tell us about the improvements they have made.
Reader of the Week has become a really important part of our assembly, and students are always excited to let me know that they have been nominated for this award. So, keep reading Silkstone! Families, keep reading at home. Keep the love of reading alive in your lives and those of your children.
The ability to read is a gift that will last a lifetime.
Parent – Teacher Interviews
Please make an appointment with your child’s teacher in either week 9 or 10 this term. These conversations are your opportunity to discuss with your child’s teacher the progress he or she has made during term 3.
Have a great fortnight everyone

Mike Sawbridge
