2012 sees Silkstone State School children on a new musical adventure – “Wind in the Willows”!
After the excitement and success of “Cinderella and Rockerfella” in 2010, we once again have a great cast of children and hardworking staff behind the scenes preparing for the performances in the September.
“Wind in the Willows” is the classic English tale of Toad, Ratty, Mole and Badger as well as many other characters, told by Kenneth Grahame. This adaption is by Mark & Helen Johnson, with the script by Sue Langwade – all from Out of the Ark Ltd.
As a school community we have had fun exploring English animals such as stoats, weasels, badgers and moles as well as English terms that are new to our “Aussie” ears.
The cast consists of 49 children from Years 4 – 7. Practices have been underway since the beginning of Term 1 – learning songs and dialogue, finding out about characterisation, voice projection, choreography and team work. Children and staff have given up many early morning s and lunch hours to keep rehearsals rolling.
The 100+ voice choir consists of Year 4 – 7 children from Glee, BRASSS and Harmonies Choir. Our 100 voice Junior Choir (Years 2 & 3) will be the opening act for the musical.
Many staff members and parents are busily making sets and collecting props, organizing costumes and make-up for what will be an exciting time of adventure and song.
“Wind in the Willows” will be presented on Tuesday, 18th September for a closed whole school performance and then on the evenings of Tuesday 18th and Thursday 20th September, starting at 7.00pm. Tickets are only on sale at the door.
